Lecturer/Senior Lecturer
Natalie Martin

Natalie is a lecturer in Politics and International Relations and teaches the Methodologies in International Relations Research module of the online MA International Relations course.

Before she returned to academia to study her PhD at Loughborough University in 2007, Natalie was a BBC journalist.

Natalie's research focuses on the Turkey-EU relations, liberal and illiberal democracy, and the role of the news media.

She is interested in the Turkey-EU accession process, associated security issues such as migration and terrorism and the role of democracy in this process. Currently Natalie is working on the impact of the migration issue on Turkey-EU relations and a monograph addressing illiberality and democracy in Turkey. Natalie is also interested in focusing on the UK as a case study of “liberal democracy”.
