I am from Kenya and a Civil Engineer by training, having graduated from the University of Nairobi. I have worked in the road sector since graduating and I currently work for the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) as Head of Quality Assurance. Previously, I have headed our Bridge section, the Maintenance Departments and the Design and Construction Department of KeNHA. I am also a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Kenya.
During my career I was motivated by the desire to harness nature for the comfort of my fellow men. I wanted to move into the field of engineering so that I could focus particularly on the need to make the movement of people safe, convenient and economical. Additionally, ensuring the use of resources in a sustainable manner was another factor that guided my career.
I work in a very busy organisation, where many construction projects are rolled out and need to be completed within time, cost and to a strict quality standard. It therefore makes full-time, on campus study a big challenge; the Online MSc in Construction Project Management has given me the flexibility to balance work and studies.
I chose Nottingham Trent University because of its very high reputation - particularly for the Construction Project Management course - and also for the fact that it has been ranked as one of the best universities in the United Kingdom for several years running now. The online study option is flexible, while the depth and quality of training remains extremely high.
My course has participants from around the globe, including Asia, Europe, America and Africa, and this has given us all the opportunity to network across the industry and also to learn about the different cultures and practices across the many regions.
The Online MSc Construction Project Management course has given me a much deeper understanding of the changing dynamics in the industry and it will certainly be useful for my professional development, even beyond my current employment.
Studying online has also helped me to balance my busy work schedule and my academic workload without straining me too much. This course has given me a lifeline to both formal employment opportunities as well as the option of self-employment in the future, and it will allow me to provide better quality services for our customers regardless of the path I choose.
For anyone considering enrolling onto the course, my advice is that you have made the right choice and you should not look back. I would recommend the Online MSc in Construction Project Management from NTU to any professional in the construction business who would like to remain relevant in this fast-changing industry.
