Many of the students on our MBA courses have joined with the goal of getting ahead within the their company or industry, and past figures suggest almost all will find graduate-level employment within six months of finishing.
But working for an employer isn’t the only route our students choose.
A significant number are instead focused on entrepreneurialism. They want to be in complete control, and despite having their own industry-specific skills and experience they need to build more general business foundations – and our Online MBA meets those needs perfectly. So, when it comes to where our Online MBA students want to work – the answer is often within their own businesses.
Completing the knowledge set
Management experience in any industry will be useful to an entrepreneur, but it must be complemented by a range of other abilities. Entrepreneurs need strong leadership skills; they need to know how to manage people well and they need to understand research and marketing.
These topics are not just touched on by our Online MBA, they make up the course’s core units. Students develop their general business know-how on modules such as Responsible Leadership, Operations Management, Financial Management, and Business Information and Decision Making.
There’s more specific insight to gain from the Global Marketing Management module - which gives you a chance to reflect on the nature of marketing and its importance in the global business landscape – and Customer Engagement, the content of which can be applied to almost any organisation in both the private and public sectors.
“The course has given me a whole new perspective on work in general, being able to understand different realities and how these can be applied even in the smallest things I do on a day-to-day basis. You learn a lot from others and from the course material itself,” says Online MBA student, Maria Agius.
Building a solid business plan
Time spent studying our Online MBA isn’t only useful on a theoretical, knowledge-based level – there are also opportunities to start building the foundations of a real-world business.
As part of the course, students are required to complete a Business Research Project, and many use this opportunity to develop a real business plan for the enterprise they want to build.
A strong business plan is a necessity for anyone looking to launch a new company, but by working on one as part of an Online MBA, you get the support of an experienced mentor. You can apply what you’ve recently learned in the rest of the course to your business concept while receiving professional guidance.
This support is also backed up by industry recognition – NTU is one of fewer than one per cent of business schools worldwide to have both EQUIS and AACSB accreditation.
Acknowledged by businesses and corporate clients worldwide, EQUIS accreditation is the most comprehensive institutional accreditation system for business and management schools. AACSB, meanwhile, provides quality assurance, business education intelligence and professional development services to more than 1,600-member organisations and 800 business schools worldwide.
Invaluable entrepreneurial networking
As our Online MBA doesn’t require students to ever set foot on campus, it attracts ambitious and enthusiastic people from all over the world while providing the same high quality we offer in our campus course - but in a more convenient and flexible format for busy working professionals. In fact, our online students represent 61 different countries, with 58 per cent coming from outside the UK.
So, as well as being constantly exposed to different cultural perspectives and ideas, you have the chance to become part of an international network of established and soon-to-be business leaders that will benefit you long into the future. The contacts and relationships built while studying online could prove invaluable for anyone running their own business after graduating.
